The Stiffness coefficient application calculates b1, A, B and G stiffness values from the NHTSA Crash Test database for frontal barrier crash test.

The stiffness values produced by this application are derived directly from the NHTSA database, though the data has been filtered to include valid frontal crash tests only.

To calculate the stiffness values the user simply selects the vehicle Make, followed by the Model and finally the Year.

The result screen will then display the vehicle data, NHTSA crash test number and raw data used in the stiffness calculations. (average crush depth, damage width, test weight, and impact speed). The collision restitution value may be adjusted through the use of a slider, which is used to determine the vehicles change in velocity of the crash test (if the restitution value is set to 0, the impact speed will be used in the calculations). The b sub o value may also be adjusted through the use of a separate slider.

The results of the stiffness values will be displayed on this screen as well as the step-by-step or line-by-line calculations, which may be viewed by scrolling down on the screen.

The results of each crash test includes a "Test Link" which is the link to current tests web site within the NHTSA website. From this link, the actual crash test report, test photos and videos (if available) may be viewed and/or downloaded.

The crash test results may be emailed so the data may be included into a report or printed. The email includes all of the information on the results screen to include the line-by-line calculations and the hyperlink to the crash test web site.

The crash test data in the application is current as of September 2010.
